Refuge

This piece was interesting but I didn’t connect with it. I understood the bird watching fascination of the author, but I have a hard time empathizing with her. Where she would do anything to protect her favorite place and the birds that live there; I see preserving a natural habitat for a purpose while ignoring the natural changes of the landscapes as a self-interested action. So what the lake rises? Don’t build a dike to stop that… it’s a natural change in the landscape. Don’t build a gun club on top of it either. How is intervening to stop a natural change any different than destroying it yourself?
